If you could do it all over again, would you go at music differently? Would you play some other instrument? Not play one at all? Sing?
I think about this sometimes because of my kids. What can I do for them? What should I do for them, in the music realm.
I’m not for pushing the kids. In part, it’s based on my experience. I didn’t need a lot of pushing and didn’t get it either, at least from my parents. I can’t see turning your kid into a Mozart.
I have one simple goal for most of decisions with the kids and it’s kinda lame. I want life to be as normal as possible. What’s normal? I don’t know exactly. It isn’t that they need to cushioned from difficultly but I also rarely see the benefit to unneeded difficulty. For example, I don’t see much value in “building character.” I don’t even see how you do that.
If my kid has talent and drive then maybe s/he can be Mozart, but failing that, it won’t change my love for them.
