So here’s the official blog post on my cysts.
I had 3 sebaceous cysts or pilar cysts removed from my scalp on Wednesday
last. The surgery is pretty simple. You’re awake for the procedure, and it’s only a local anesthetic that is used (lidocain, I think). The worst part is the actual needle sticks for the lidocain. For the large one, it felt like they put about 10 shots in. The first stick is clearly the worst. But as the anesthetic settles in the shots get easier. Then they make a small incision in the scalp and pop it out.
It mostly feels like a lot of tugging. I have no idea what they use to actually pull it out. It kind of feels like scooping. Then they just throw a couple stitches in to close it up. I was a little woozy after the surgery. When I had a single one removed several years ago I don’t remember being all that weak-kneed. But this time I had a hard time going down stairs because my legs felt a little wobbly. I’ve likened it to donating blood. Sometimes you get a little wobbly from it sometimes you don’t.
It was pretty sore the night of the surgery. I took a little pain medication which made sleeping fine. The next day it just gave me a mild headache, but nothing too bad. Although you do have a strange feeling of tugging every time you have any facial expression. The incisions are still tender, but they’re really not too bad. The stitches will be removed on Friday.
Today I got the official call from pathology that they results are completely normal/benign. We weren’t worried at all that there might be something wrong, but they have to check it out because it is a thing removed from my body. Standard procedure.
And no, they didn’t shave any of my hair.
